Our process

How we work

Most firms describe a process. Fewer explain why the order matters. This is ours, written out.

Cash flow → protection → portfolio

Cash flow, then protection, then portfolioThree layers built in order: cash flow as the foundation, protection above it, and the portfolio on top.Cash flowProtectionPortfolio

Your monthly cash flow is the part of your financial life you control directly and continuously. Market returns and tax law are not. We begin by separating income from expenses so saving, giving and investing happen intentionally.

Protection comes next. The portfolio is built on top of that structure, not asked to compensate for its absence.

The seven steps

  1. Step 01

    Identify the decision

Take apart the question you arrived with and surface the questions beneath it.

  2. Step 02

    Understand the options

Include the option to do nothing, which deserves the same attention as every strategy.

  3. Step 03

    Examine tradeoffs

State advantages and disadvantages plainly. A strategy without a disadvantage has not been examined closely enough.

  4. Step 04

    Model consequences

Run the numbers under more than one assumption, including those where life does not follow the spreadsheet.

  5. Step 05

    Find second-order effects

Ask what changes in liquidity, taxes, risk, estate plans and the lives of people who depend on you.

  6. Step 06

    Coordinate the plan

Connect the decision with the rest of your plan and the professionals already advising you.

  7. Step 07

    Make an informed decision

The decision remains yours. Our job is to help you see the whole board before you move.

Is your plan built on assumptions that hold up?

Plans rarely fail on the arithmetic. They fail on the assumptions underneath.

  • Will your spending really fall in retirement?
  • Can your business really serve as your retirement plan?
  • What does financial security mean to you beyond being debt-free?

We test each assumption against your real numbers in our verification meeting, before anything is recommended.

A clear first step

Bring the question that keeps pulling at the rest of your plan.
